Paul Erdős' lecture in Gólyavár (1993)

In 1993 University Eötvös Loránd (ELTE, Budapest) awarded an honorary doctoral degree to the eighty-year-old world famous mathematician, Paul Erdős, and asked him to give a talk on “The Actual Problems of Mathematics” for a general audience (that is, not just for mathematicians) in the university’s largest auditorium completely filled with about 500 people.

This year, mathematician László Lovász will receive the Erasmus Medal of the European Academy of Sciences, which he will receive at the institution's annual conference on October 16. Eurocomb'25 – A record number of participants are coming to the conference

The conference on combinatorics is being held in Budapest for the second time, organized by the Rényi Institute. Participants from nearly 30 countries around the world are coming to this year's Eurocomb. The prestigious European Combinatorics Award will also be presented here.

Our competitors performed well at the International Mathematical Olympiad

The Hungarian team finished 14th among the 110 participating countries. All of our competitors are returning home with medals: Mátyás Bodor and Ábel Szakács won gold medals, Pál Czanik, Martin Holló, and Boldizsár Varga won silver medals, and István Ádám Molnár won a bronze medal.

András Némethi, Gábor Tardos, Balázs Szegedy and Péter Pál Pach also gave presentations at the International Congress of Basic Sciences (ICBS) in recent days. The congress aims to exchange knowledge and collaborate in the fields of mathematics, physics, computer science and engineering.
