Abstract: We study sets of positive integers containing no 3-term
arithmetic progressions and which are maximal to this property. That
means adding any element to this set creates at least one 3-term
arithmetic progression. Such a maximal set can be rather sparse. We
describe some results concerning sparse maximal arithmetic progression
free sets. Actually, we consider a somewhat more general problem. Do
not expect deep methods, our arguments are very elementary.
