Leírás

The next talk will take place on May 2nd, 12.15-13.15, in the Tondós lecture room. It is going to be the second lecture of the three-part minicourse on optimal transport. (The final lecture of the series will be on May 23rd.)

Speaker: Dániel Virosztek

Title: The basics of static and dynamic quantum optimal transport

Abstract

We will review static and dynamic concepts of optimal transportation in quantum mechanics as well as the corresponding quantum Wasserstein distances.

Simple quantum systems will be used to illustrate the concepts of couplings and transport costs.

We will comment on the surprising phenomenon of positive self-distances, its physical origin, and its applications.

Finally, we will present the first steps of the proof of a quantum version of the Jordan-Kinderleherer-Otto theorem stating that the heat flow is the gradient flow of the entropy with respect to the quadratic Wasserstein distance. This argument is due to Carlen and Maas, and we will complete this journey next time.
