We will briefly review the classical Jordan-Kinderleherer-Otto theorem stating that the heat flow is the gradient flow of the entropy with respect to the quadratic Wasserstein distance. Then, we will discuss in detail its quantum mechanical counterpart obtained by Eric Carlen and Jan Maas recently.
