Emmanuel Kowalski (ETH Zürich): Sidon sets in algebraic geometry

Abstract:

The talk will present new examples of Sidon sets arising from algebraic geometry, and discuss some of their properties. In particular, the construction provides a uniform definition of five well-known infinite families of very dense Sidon sets in finite abelian groups. We will also briefly survey some applications of Sidon sets to equidistribution problems for exponential sums, and end with some natural questions about these sets.
