A classical problem of interest in the study of group rings is to explore conditions under which the unit group of a group ring satisfies certain identities. János Kurdics started to work in this area in the mid-90s and made significant progress in a short time. After a longer period of inactivity his return with new and exciting findings was a cause of great hope and expectation for many of us, the group ringers. To our greatest and deepest regret, the opportunity to continue collaborating with János was sadly not to be but, it is with heartfelt recognition for the immense contribution he inspired us with, that our work continues today.
The talk will survey his results, in particular the last one on group rings whose group of units has maximal derived length obtained jointly with the speaker.
