Julian Sahasrabudhe (University of Cambridge): Cosine polynomials with few zeros: on a problem of Littlewood.

What is the minimum number of zeros a {0,1}-cosine polynomial with n terms can have in its period?
This question was first asked by Littlewood in 1968 and remains a challenging open problem in this area.
In this talk, I will discuss the history of this problem and focus on a new upper bound, which was proved
recently by myself and Tomas Juškevičius. Our main new ingredient is a result that allows us to get good
control on the number of zeros of a random perturbation of a polynomial.
