Leírás

In this talk I will present goals, framework and scientific background of the IMU-DRS experiment, which will be conducted by Tibor Kapu during the 16-day Ax-4 mission onboard the ISS. The experiment aims to explore navigation based on self-contained motion tracking—using acceleration, angular velocity, and optionally magnetic field strength— in microgravity, without relying on external signals such as GPS. While the theory of rigid body motion has been well-established for centuries, its practical application presents numerous challenges and pitfalls, including handling measurement noise and drift, managing local coordinate systems, and accounting for gravitational effects. Many techniques and tools have been developed to address these challenges, some of which I will discuss during the talk.
