Title: Almost commuting matrices

Abstract: Two n-by-n matrices are called delta-almost commuting if their commutator has rank less than delta times n. They are called epsilon-near commuting if they can be perturbed by matrices of rank epsilon times n such that the resulting matrices are commuting. I will show that for any positive epsilon there exists a delta such that if two unitary matrices are delta-almost commuting, then they are epsilon- near commuting. Joint work with Lukasz Grabowski.
