Description
The aim of the Lexicon project piloted by David Clarke and Carmel
Mesiti from the University of Melbourne and involving researchers and
mathematics teachers from nine countries is to identify and compare the
professional lexicon reasonably shared and used by middle school mathematics
teachers in different countries to make sense of and describe classroom sessions.
It is expected that this project will contribute to overcome the limitation induced
by the use of English as lingua franca for international communication in
mathematics education, and to the enrichment of teachers' professional
discourse. In this seminar, I will introduce first the project and its methodology,
then describe the main characteristics of the French lexicon, before presenting
some results of the first comparisons undertaken.
