Peter Cameron: Permutation groups in semigroup theory

The Classification of Finite Simple Groups revolutionised the study of
finite permutation groups, and is now having a similar effect on finite
transformation semigroups. In the talk, I will survey some results, on
regularity, idempotent-generation, and synchronization, which depend on
the new results on permutation groups.
