The Rényi Institute is celebrating its 75th anniversary with a series of lectures. The ceremony on October 28 will open in the main hall of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences with lectures by two mathematicians who have been awarded the Fields Medal, Wendelin Werner and Alessio Figalli. In the afternoon, the institute's current and former directors and leading researchers will present Rényi's past, its achievements, and discuss the challenges of the future.

The procedure, which András Gilyén, a mathematician at the Rényi Institute, wrote a paper about, could be a building block for the first practical applications of quantum computers. The article was recently published in the journal Nature.

The Erasmus Medal was awarded today at the Academia Europaea conference to mathematician László Lovász, research professor at the Rényi Institute. This is the highest award that the Academia Europaea can bestow, recognizing the recipient's lifelong scientific achievement.

Richard Wiegandt, Doctor of Mathematical Sciences, retired scientific advisor at the Alfréd Rényi Institute for Mathematical Research, and former head of the institute's Algebra Department, passed away on October 12, 2025, at the age of 94.
