The Erasmus Medal was awarded by the European Academy of Sciences to László Lovász, Research Professor at the Rényi Institute, former head of the Budapest branch of the Academia Europaea, and former president of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, for his consistently outstanding international scientific work.

The Abel Prize-winning mathematician received one of, if not the highest, recognition that the Academia Europaea can give to a scientist for scientific achievement. The medal will be presented at the European organization’s annual conference in Barcelona in mid-October, and the recipient will deliver the annual Erasmus lecture.
