
The World Congress of Mathematics is held every four years, where invited speakers present the most significant achievements of recent years and where the International Mathematical Union awards are presented, including the Fields Medal, the most prestigious award for mathematicians under 40. The list of speakers for the conference in Philadelphia (USA) in July 2026 has just been announced.

László Lovász, research professor at the Rényi Institute, was invited by the organizers to give the Abel Lecture.Among the plenary speakers is Éva Tardos, professor at Cornell University, external member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, member of the International Advisory Board of the Rényi Institute. The first official International Congress of Mathematicians was held in 1897 in Zurich, and since then the International Congress of Mathematicians has been a privileged arena for mathematicians, with presentations on new research areas at conferences setting the direction of developments in the discipline for decades to come.
